Spring Equinox: The Basics

The Spring Equinox (a.k.a. Ostara, around March 19-23rd) marks the exact moment when day and night are equal—a cosmic balancing act before we fully tip into the bright, expansive energy of spring.

From this point forward, the days grow longer, the Sun gains strength, and the Earth bursts into life. It’s a time of fertility, renewal, and growth, both in nature and within ourselves.

This shift has been celebrated for centuries in cultures across the world:

Pagans & Witches – Ostara, a festival of balance, fertility, and the returning light.
Ancient Romans – Festivals honoring Flora, the goddess of flowers.
Celts & Norse – Seasonal celebrations welcoming the energy of rebirth.
Easter & Passover Traditions – Many modern religious holidays still reflect the themes of renewal, liberation, and fertility from these ancient rites.

So yeah, the Equinox has been a big fcking deal* for a long time.

Ways to Celebrate the Spring Equinox Like a Badass Witch

So now that you know what the f*ck the Spring Equinox is, how do you celebrate it? Here are some ideas:

Get Outside – Walk barefoot on the Earth, plant something, or just sit in the sun. Feel the energy shift around you.

Light a Candle for Balance – Use green, yellow, or pastel colors to represent new beginnings and the growing Sun.

Spring Cleaning, But Make It Magical – Cleansing your home with salt, herbs, or smoke can clear out old energy and make space for new blessings.
