I’ve often reflected on the reasons that led me to leave my corporate career: burnout, exhaustion, a lack of fulfillment, and, most importantly, the feeling of being unheard. Despite my dedication and hard work, my voice seemed to fade into the background. This experience, unfortunately, is a common one for many Black women.
We’ve witnessed firsthand the silencing of Black women, particularly in the aftermath of recent elections. Despite our significant contributions to society, our voices are often dismissed and our potential undervalued. Social media, a platform intended to amplify voices, has ironically become another space where Black women’s narratives are often overlooked.
While it’s important to acknowledge the broader challenges faced by marginalized groups on social media, it’s undeniable that Black women face unique barriers to visibility and engagement. This is evident in the low engagement rates on posts by Black women creators, even those with substantial followings.
It’s time to change this narrative. We deserve to be heard, respected, and empowered.
