Self Care Sunday: Reading

Hey guys! Welcome back to Self Care Sunday.

I hope everyone is coping well with the side effects of all of the lunar and astrological energies out this week.

In case you didn’t know, there’s the full flower moon, the lunar eclipse, mercury going retrograde, and solar flares.

The energy from all of these occurrences have been dynamic, intense, chaotic, and transformative. They are causing disturbances in electronics, traffic, communications, physical and mental health, travel, relationships, business partnerships, and practically anything else you can think of. With so much going on, I’ve barely wanted to leave my house, let alone my bed.

I am struggling with all of this energy disturbance! I’ve got headaches, nausea, fatigue, and irritability. I’ve been apathetic at best and all I’ve wanted to do is lay in bed with a good book. That is what lead me to today’s Self Care Sunday topic, which is Reading.

Reading as a form of Self Care is definitely in my top ten list of activities because it:

  • Improves Memory and concentration
  • Reduces stress
  • Improves communication skills
  • Builds self esteem
  • Can prevent forms of dementia
  • Relaxes
  • Improves sleep
  • Helps you tap into your own creativity and imagination.
  • It’s free and easily accessible
  • Works best in a quiet environment.
  • Something you can do anywhere.
  • Has a variety of options to choose from.
  • Can be educational or entertainment.

Reading has been my best friend through this weekend.

With nothing but the natural sunlight streaming through my bedroom window and a good book I’ve been able to:

  • Soothe some of the intensity of my headache.
  • I’ve created a peaceful gentle environment free of intrusive images and sounds.
  • Getting lost in my books has helped me redirect my focus from what’s wrong, to having gratitude for what is right.
  • Slow down the racing thoughts that were causing me stress.

Reading also provides a great distraction from the real world and real problems. It allows you to get out of your head about your own issues and focus on someone or something else for a while. The break that reading gives you from your own drama, concerns, and tasks helps to create space for new perspectives to form. Old problems are no match for new solutions.

If you’ve got time today, I’d definitely recommend setting aside a few minutes to read something. Anything. Like this blog, lol. I welcome you to distract yourself from your own stuff by reading about, and finding humor in, my disfunction.

Are you currently reading any good books? I love a good book recommendation. Please leave your faves in the comments below.

I’m going to get back reading Psychic Witch by Mat Auryn.

Until next time guys!

Happy Sunday 🙂
